Full title: PSA: How to check if a model part is okay for the MotM Contest
I really wish the title box was larger

Hi all!

We’re having quite a few people who we’re having to deny MotM entries first time this month because we’re getting a lot of people unknowingly using unauthorised parts. We really hate having to do this because we know how much work you guys put into making these models and I know how devastating it can be to have to swap or change something because you didn’t realise that a model part is not okay to use. So I’m just going to run through a few useful tips to help you check if a part is okay to use for the contest or not!

So here’s the scenario: You have found a model part and you’re not sure if it is okay to use in the MotM contest, here’s a quick checklist:

:bulletblue: Is it listed in the MMD-Mall?
    o Then it is fine
o All the parts submitted to the MMD-Mall are checked before being allowed in, if it’s there, it’s okay (occasionally something is let through that isn’t, but this is very rare, and we do our best to remove these as soon as they are brought to our attention)

:bulletblue: Is it ripped from an MMD model that allows editing?
    o Then it is fine

:bulletblue: Is it ripped from and is original content for 3DCustom Girl (aka 3DCG)?
o Some things are ported into 3DCG from other games, if we are aware that this is the case, this part is not accepted

If none of these are the case, then it may be an unauthorised conversion, which we do not allow in the contest. Of course it may be fine, but how can you check? These might help:

:bulletblue: Do they credit someone else in their description such as “TS3” or “Illusion” or “Sega”
o Google the other name with the phrase “game”, if that turns out to be a games company, then it is not allowed

:bulletblue: Do they credit an abstract username?
o Google the name and see who it comes up with
o It may be helpful to add a phrase “sims” or “XNAlara”
o If it comes up with something where it originates from a game or is custom contents, currently this is not allowed

:bulletblue: Is the description pretty bare?
o Do they just say “credit me” or just a link to the download?
o Most original model makers normally will write more in the description than that. Often people who make unauthorised conversion don’t add much of a description

:bulletblue: Are some of the pieces in their gallery unauthorised conversions or game rips?
o Sometimes people only properly credit some of their stuff and not all of them (such as if their uploading a lot of things at once, or if they are going to update the description later)

:bulletblue: Are the work in progress shots of the piece being made listed in the users gallery
o Original creators sometimes upload wips (work in progress) of a model part being made in a program such as metasequoia or blender
o If this is the case, it is probably an original

Of course you could ask them whether they made it themselves or if they converted it from somewhere (remember to be polite, this question can come off as a bit rude if someone made it themself)

:bulletblue: Did they respond to your enquiry?
o Many unauthorised converters will not respond to questions asking for the origins of a piece
o Most original creators will be more than happy to let you know they made it (they're probably pretty proud of the piece and will be more than happy to show off a little)

If you’re still unsure you can ask us for help (please send the group a note), we’re pretty used to spotting unauthorised parts and may be able to lend our opinion on it. Besides, we’re the ones ultimately making the decision, so if we say it’s okay, then it’ll be okay :D

Please remember!
It is your responsibility to find out if the parts you are using are okay to use! If we’re not sure if something is okay or not then we will decline your entry! And I hate to do that!

I hope this helps and that you’re able to submit with no problem in the future :D

PS: I would also like to point that that I am aware that this journal sounds quite negative towards unauthorised converters. It is not meant that way. I am just trying to explain my internal though process when assessing model parts.
PPS: Although I really wish all of you would actually credit your parts properly and gave credit where credit is due, because it would be much better for all those users who don’t want to accidentally use unauthorised parts.

Pardon me, but I have a question.
Are NJXA parts that were converted from 3DCG allowed?
I noticed that one of the featured winner's has a NJXA part.
I always thought NJXA parts from 3DCG were not allowed, and I just wanted to makes sure if they were or not since my memory is quite blurry.
